Iran FM says UNSC Fails Even to Condemn Israeli Aggression on Lebanon

Still all of the meetings held in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and on its sidelines revolve around the issues of Lebanon and the Zionist regime's invasion of the country, said the Iranian Foreign Minister who is in New York.
Iran FM says UNSC Fails Even to Condemn Israeli Aggression on Lebanon

The Zionist regime's raids on southern Lebanon have left more than 700 civilians killed and over 2,000 others injured, since Monday.

Abbass Araghchi told reporters in an interview on Friday: "Unfortunately, due to the US policy that prevents these meetings from reaching any conclusion, the Security Council failed to make a decision even in terms of a simple statement or a simple condemnation."
Yet, a forum was created for Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Iran to present their positions about Palestine and Lebanon, he added.
The aggression on Lebanon continues as the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia in a joint statement with the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, and several European Union countries declared: "The situation between Lebanon and Israel since October 8th, 2023 is intolerable and presents an unacceptable risk of a broader regional escalation."

Countries Call for Iran's Support of Their Membership in BRICS

Elsewhere in his interview, Araghchi pointed to three other meetings he had on Friday, namely the BRICS foreign ministries meeting, Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) (chaired by Iran), and the Palestine Committee of the NAM countries.
He referred to his speech at the BRICS meeting where he said the role of BRICS should become a new economic pole in the world, and all its members form their financial relations without the need for the US financial system.
"The interesting point with the BRICS was that the number of countries either applying for BRICS membership or seeking to be BRICS partners is increasing, several countries have called on Iran to support their request to join BRICS," the Iranian FM noted.
Araghchi said that in all three meetings, the issue of Israeli crimes against Gaza and Lebanon was highlighted.
