Iran Urges UN Action Following Killing of Two Iranians in Beirut by Israeli Forces

In his letter, Iravani recounted the attacks in detail. On October 19, 2024, an Israeli drone launched a missile strike on Karbasi and her husband’s car in Beirut. Though they survived the initial strike and sought refuge, a second missile struck them moments later, resulting in their deaths. This act of violence, captured on surveillance cameras, showcased what Iravani described as Israel’s blatant disregard for civilian lives and international law.

Three days later, on October 22, Dr. Ali Heidari, who was providing critical medical assistance to those in need, was deliberately targeted and killed by Israeli forces. Iravani stressed that this assassination violated the 1949 Geneva Conventions, which explicitly prohibit attacks on medical personnel and facilities, labeling it a war crime.
“These crimes not only violate Lebanon’s sovereignty but also undermine the international community’s efforts to safeguard the basic principles of humanitarian law,” Iravani wrote. He also pointed to Israel’s continued attacks on hospitals and medical personnel during its ongoing operations in Gaza and Lebanon, noting that hundreds of medical workers had been killed as a result.
Iran's representative called on the Security Council to condemn these actions unequivocally and to take decisive steps to ensure that Israel is held accountable for its repeated violations of international law, including international humanitarian law. Iravani also urged the UN Secretary-General to ensure that these incidents are thoroughly documented and reported to the General Assembly, the Security Council, and the Human Rights Council.
The letter follows rising tensions in the region as Israeli forces continue their military operations, prompting international concern over the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict. Iran has repeatedly condemned these operations, asserting that Israel’s actions amount to war crimes and calling for a unified international response.
