Indian journalist, Pari Saikia, has won the Grand Prize for her investigative article on repercussions of Myanmar crackdown on Rohingya Muslims and the inhumane situation suffered by women experiencing forced marriages to unknown older men in neighboring countries.
It also sheds light on the abuse of the brides at the hands of their spouses and also their desperate struggle to reunite with their families.
The jury described Saikia’s work as “illuminating reporting with the potential to bring the topipc into policy-makers agenda and affect the necessary changes that protect vulnerable women.”
Lorenzo Natali, outstanding award by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnership (DG INTPA) recognizes the journalists whose remarkable work highlights issues such as human rights, inequality and climate change.
