Big Ride for Palestine 2024 ends with hundreds taking part in London rally

More than one thousand, six hundred cyclists have taken part in the Big Ride for Palestine 2024 across seven cities in the UK since 20 July, including Belfast, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol. Riders in Sheffield covered the north and north-east of England, and this year’s Big Ride culminated on Saturday with three rides in London converging in Mile End Park for a rally organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Unison and the National Union for Education.

The Big Ride for Palestine campaign is calling on the new Labour Government to act on international and UK law, with an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to arms sales to Israel.
Long-standing supporter Maxine Peake appealed for as many people as possible to take part in the campaign. “The Big Ride for Palestine has been raising awareness of the situation in Palestine for nearly ten years now,” said the actress, activist and keen cyclist. “There were hundreds of cyclists out there showing solidarity with the people of Palestine, opposing occupation and apartheid. Let’s support them in this effort.”
Ellen Logan, one of the Big Ride organisers, pointed out that the world has witnessed the daily oppression of the Palestinian people for years. “And now we’ve spent the last ten months watching a live-streamed genocide. Everyone should be outraged and campaigning for an end to this violence. We use our bikes and freedoms to raise awareness and hugely important aid for children and disabled cyclists on the ground in Gaza.”
The Big Ride was founded in 2015 by activists in Britain, Ireland and beyond who wanted to combine a love of cycling with support for the Palestinian people. It is sponsored by a number of campaigning organisations including Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Campaign, Friends of Al-Aqsa, War on Want, The Amos Trust, Unison, Jewish Network for Palestine, Jews for Justice for Palestinians and Football Against Apartheid.
