Obama speaks out on Gaza onslaught

By Tim King
Israel-friendly western media sources assail the US president for uttering a few words about the tragedy befalling civilians in Gaza targeted by the Israeli military.
Obama speaks out on Gaza onslaught

The disproportionate killing ratio in Israel's war against Gaza has finally moved US President Barack Obama to ask for the cessation of hostilities. The death toll in Gaza has soared past 500 and is now nearing 600. Families have been targeted, as was the case during Operation Cast Lead in 2008/2009. Obama, as well as David Cameron in the UK, have asked for a ceasefire but still continue to pander to Zionist Israel's "right to defend itself".
Obama made no reference to Palestinians having the same right to self defence.

On the heels of this small breakthrough, the pro-Israel US media source, Washington Post, responded to the US President's call for peace with an article titled, "Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth on Gaza".
The WP's Jennifer Rubin writes:

“Obama denies Israel the right to defend itself by taking out the tunnels, rockets and terrorists who bombard its citizens with rockets. In essence he is saying: We’re with Israel until Hamas racks up enough deaths (by putting people in harm’s way).”
This leads back to the same, long in the tooth worn-out argument, that Hamas uses civilians as "human shields" which is as far from fact as one can go in media. Rather than supporting its points, the WP simply justifies the deaths of Palestinians without a second thought. It seems the WP is little more than an Israeli mouthpiece bent on supporting Israel's radical Netanyahu regime, human rights violations and war crimes that the United Nations signers, in particular, has tried for years to change.

Jennifer Rubin might as well work for the Israeli miltary herself as a more biased and less credible news report has likely never been published by such a large media organization.

Yet this is what Americans read, and the results are detrimental to people like 15-year-old Aya Bahjat Abu Sultan of Beit Lahia, a young girl killed in recent days in an Israeli airstrike. Five of the girl's family members were seriously injured. Are these the so-called terrorists referenced by Rubin?

How about 5-year-old Kinan Akram al-Hallaq, 8-year-old Rayan Taysir Abu Jame’, or Fatima Mahmoud Abu Jame’, who was three? These children were all killed in recent days by Israeli aircraft strikes. Writers like Rubin have the blood of these little children running down their sleeves. Of course Rubin and so many like her have great writing positions because they too are Jewish and willing to write propaganda that confuses Americans and keeps them uninformed about what is actually taking place.

The truth is that Hamas has simply seen enough; years of air attacks, border incursions, and political assassinations are regular fare for Zionist Israel. It seems patently clear that Israel wants to eliminate the people of Gaza and that it feels empowered to do so from years of endless US support.
The al-Asqa Martyrs hospital was the scene of an intense attack by Israeli forces. Fikr Shalltoot, director of programmes at Medical Aid for Palestinians in Gaza city, told the Guardian, "People can't believe this is happening – that a medical hospital was shelled without the briefest warning. It was already full with patients." He added, "Five people, I gather, were killed, and 15 were injured, including medical staff. I know the staff very well. My nephew is a medical doctor there."

Thirteen Israeli soldiers have been killed and many injured. Among the dead are two Americans who had chosen to serve in the Israeli military. This is the largest number of Israeli forces killed in decades. Video clips from the Israeli side tell a clear story: Israeli forces are carrying out their deadly attacks with American military equipment including HUMVEE's and Blackhawk helicopters. The photos are hard to distinguish from the years of images Americans have seen coming from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hamas, the elected government of Gaza, features stories and photos about Gazans killed by Israel on their Website, on a daily basis, yet the American government never objects or raises concerns over Israel's daily attacks in Palestine. Constantly under the world microscope are the unguided rockets fired from Gaza into Israel. Roughly 32 Israeli people have been killed by these rockets in all time, since the first was fired in the early 1990's. But western media outlets, particularly those in the United States, discuss the rockets from Gaza as if they were killing 32 people a day. This is because US news media frequently does not vet information, it simply parrots the same unfounded allegations.

Also at the forefront of Obama's words, are the tunnels that have been dug underneath the border with Gaza. For years Gazans have been cut off from the world, with no mail service, no right of return, no free passage or travel. The Israeli government prevents critical materials such as medicine and food supplies from reaching Gaza, and the western governments state nary a word about this ongoing human strife. The tunnels under Gaza are used to import supplies, not to export terrorism. But western leaders imply that the tunnels exist to allow Gazans to reach Israel, suggesting the potential of a military attack, and always referring to Hamas as "terrorists" when in fact the US government slaughtered more innocent Iraqi civilians than any military force in modern history.

Hamas stated in a news release today that all parts of the Gaza Strip continue to receive airstrikes and the vast majority of victims are civilians. Israel has targeted medical facilities as they did during Operation Cast Lead.
According to the Hamas, Israeli ground forces are assaulting villages in northern Gaza and neighborhoods in eastern Gaza City, in the central part of the Gaza Strip. Yet the Hamas military wing, Al Qassam Brigades, only reports retaliating with missiles against Israeli military bases. Western media reports typically gloss over the fact that it is Israel that specifically targets civilians, not the other way around.

In fact, another highly overlooked point about Hamas is that the political body renounced suicide attacks many years ago, and Israeli and US press almost always gloss over this critical political/military progress.
Hamas wrote:

The Israeli Prime Minister was not the least bit remorseful for the high number of civilian casualties, according to an official statement, Sunday. Instead, he announced a continuation of the ground assault and told Palestinians that the coming few days will be even worse than the last.

Lest we forget, the simple truth is that the current war on Gaza is a result of Israel's desire to block Palestinian statehood in the United Nations. Once this is achieved, Israel's great protector, the United States of America, will lose its super veto power in the UN and this is the only act that has allowed Israel's military war crimes to first go unpunished, then spiral out of control.
