'Officials should ease purchase of books'

Supreme Leader's representative in East Azerbaijan province urged government and officials to promote the culture of reading books in society.


Ayatollah Mohsen Mojtahed Shabestarie, the representative of Supreme Leader in East Azerbaijan province urged the government to promote the culture of reading books among the youth in the society, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

Addressing a gathering in an opening ceremony of the 14th Tabriz International Book Fair, the religious cleric beckoned to the significant number of benefits of reading books.

As for the book price, Ayatollah Mojtahed Shabestarie demanded officials to provide the means and make it easier for book lovers to purchase what they need.  

Supreme Leader's representative in East Azerbaijan province encouraged the government to offer subsidies on purchase of books so that people can read what they want.

According to Ayatollah Mojtahed Shabestarie, nations and officials should resolve regional and international problems through reading and writing books.

The 14th Tabriz International Book Fair opened on Monday during a special ceremony attended by Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance for Cultural Affairs Seyyed Abbas Salehi.

The book fair is held as a social and cultural event with book displays, panel discussions and publishing deals.

A total of 979 Iranian and 68 foreign publishers are participating in the fair, which will be running until October 22 and thousands of visitors are expected to attend the event.
