Charles Taliaferro, emeritus professor of philosophy at St. Olaf College, lauded the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS) as a movement which favored non-violence until there was no other choice, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He said," I believe it speaks to all those who resist tyranny, injustice, and oppression. The fact that Imam. Hussein and his people were vastly outnumbered, but fought with courage and without compromise is a shining inspiration to people of all faiths who suffer and fight oppression.”
When asked if the movement was a reform or a revolution he said," The movement seems not only about reforming institutions but revolutionizing all people to fight injustice wherever it may be found and no matter what the cost.”
He said the movement by Imam Hussein (AS) is still alive because of the dynamic energy of his martyrdom and that the defilement of his body did not silence his message of fighting oppression, neither in his own time nor in our own day.
