In a Monday meeting with former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, Roknabadi pointed to Iran’s ongoing efforts to contribute to resolving the Syria crisis.

He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has proposed a six-point plan and held two rounds of Syria National Dialog meetings one in Tehran and the other in Damascus and now plans to host the international meeting of the true Friends of Syria in the Iranian capital.

Iran is planning to host the Friends of Syria Conference, dubbed “Political Solution, Regional Stability,” on May 29.

“The meeting will underline the need for dialog as the only solution to the Syria crisis and stress the significance of leaving the decision-making to Syrians without any foreign interference,” the Iranian envoy said.

Describing Tehran- Damascus ties as “strategic”, Roknabadi said the Islamic Republic considers Syria as a main pillar of the resistance front and stands by it, emphasizing that the resistance front will not remain silent if Israel makes any stupid moves.

Lahoud, for his part, said that Iran and Syria, the main supporters of resistance, have undoubtedly played a significant role in the victories achieved by Lebanon against Israel.

He added that if it was not for the support of Iran and Syria, Lebanon would have remained under the occupation of Israel.

Commenting on the developments in Syria, the former Lebanese president said that militants in Syria are totally desperate as the Syrian Army and people are strongly resisting against enemy plots.

Turmoil has gripped Syria since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of Syrian security forces, have been killed in the unrest.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly condemned any foreign interference in Syria and denounced certain countries’ support for militants carrying out terrorist activities in the Arab country.
