Tehran's Archbishop lauds the freedom provided for imprisoned religious minorities in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Sebouh Sarkissian, archbishop of Tehran participated the ceremony to commemorate the beginning of new year held in Evin detention center in Tehran, expressing his special thanks to the manager of the center and the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the freedom of religions in jails, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
"Islamic Republic of Iran is the only country in the world which respects the monotheist religions and values the followers of these faiths", said Sebouh Sarkissian praising the country as a sample in the world for freedom of religions.
He also referred to the concurrence of the mourning month of Muharram and the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) with the beginning of New Year and said that respecting other divine religions is deeply rooted in Islam since his own university thesis was on the event of Ashura giving him enough information Islam.
The ceremony to mark the beginning of New Year in Evin detention center was attended by Christian detainees, pastors and also prayer leaders of the center.
