"Ashura, symbol of unity in Afghanistan", ex-president Karzai

Afghanistan's former president has hailed the Day of Ashura as a symbol of unity in the country calling on Afghans to stand united against hostile plots.

Former president Hamid Karzai has issued a message on the Day of Ashura to praise the sacrifice made by Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), to stand against oppression and tyranny, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He stressed that the sacrifice made by Imam Hussein (AS) could inspire liberal people across the globe.
 
Hamid Karzai also noted Ashura as symbol of solidarity among Afghan people and called on the nation to stand united against hostile plots.
 
He expressed hope that the commemoration of Ashura to be held in a peaceful ambiance next year.
 
Day of Ashura is the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) who was martyred along with 72 of his companions and family members in the Battle of Karbala back in 680 AD.
 
Millions of Shia Muslims across the globe mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his companions who stood against the tyrant rulers of time and denounce the current oppression against Muslims.
