Iranian scholars have announced Wednesday April 24 as the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan preparing for a month of fasting and prayer as is the tradition among Muslims.

Iran has announced Wednesday the beginning of Ramadan as a number of scholars in the holy city of Qom did not observe the moon on Monday to call Tuesday as the first day of the fasting month, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen and Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Indonesia, Bahrain, Syria and Brunei have announced Tuesday as the first day of Ramadan.
 
Ramadan 2021 is observed amid the new wave of coronavirus pandemic and Muslim countries have called for protective measures to be maintained during the holy month.
 
Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk focusing on prayers and reading Qur'an during Ramadan, the ninth month in Muslim lunar calendar.
