Supporters of Palestine from across the New York City area, including Members and supporters of Within Our Lifetime, Samidoun New York/New Jersey, the Palestinian Youth Movement, Decolonize This Place, Existence Is Resistance, and over a dozen endorsing organizations will participate in the rally.
“About 74 years ago, my grandparents were ripped from their homes in Palestine by the Zionist military and they were never able to return,” said Laila Boutros, coordinator of Samidoun New York/New Jersey.
“They were left with no choice but to flee, and my grandmother never saw her homeland, or her own grandmother, ever again,” she said.
The demonstration, one of the dozens worldwide this weekend, will also protest the killing of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank’s Jenin refugee camp on Wednesday.
“As we mourn the Nakba, we also mourn the murder of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh,” said Nerdeen Kiswani, chair of Within Our Lifetime. “For the last 74 years, we have mourned countless Palestinians killed by the Israeli state, paid for by the U.S.”
