Imam Khomeini created spiritual basis for Islamic unity
Brazilian scholar has hailed the late founder of Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini (RA) as a unique personality of the past century who did not order the followers of Islamic denominations to unite but created the basis for solidarity among Muslims.

Erick Stanly Seida Loupes, Religions and Islamic Schools Student from Brazil, in his speech at the webinar on “Imam Khomeini, rise of unity and awakening of Muslim world” praised Imam Khomeini (RA) for bringing a new way of thinking and a new way to see and experience religion, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
According to the Brazilian scholar Imam Khomeini wanted the religion to be alive rather than confined merely in the books.
He lauded Imam Khomeini for endeavors to boost solidarity between the Shia and Sunni Muslims and said, “Imam Khomeini did not say Shia and Sunni to be united but he brought up the spiritual basis for this unity” and added,” Shia and Sunni are now together because they have come to a new understanding of religion.”
Erick Stanly Seida Loupes noted, “He showed that the core of our values is the same by bringing a thorough understanding of the religion, jurisprudence, ethics, politics.”
He said,” Shias and Sunnis cannot unite because in fact they have never come apart” and added,” We need to accept our differences.”
The Brazilian scholar also noted,” The late Imam Khomeini (RA) guaranteed the rights of religious minorities in Iran because, in his view, the core values of those religions do not contradict Islam.”
He concluded,” We need to look at Islam in a new way not based on names but an Islam based on actions because then the divisions are gone and that is the most important message of Imam Khomeini.”
Erick Stanly Seida Loupes and a number of religious, cultural and political elites expressed their views at the webinar on “Imam Khomeini, rise of unity and awakening of Muslim world” held by Iran’s World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.
