Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb, in response to a letter by prominent Iranian cleric, hailed Ayatollah Alireza A’arafi for his stance against the recent desecration of Qur’an in a number of European countries, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The director of al-Azhar expressed hope that the “inhumane” and “uncivilized” burning of Qur’an will create a motivation for settling the disagreements and build unity among Muslims across the globe.

Ahmed al-Tayyeb also expressed hope that Muslims can stand against the challenges threatening their security and religious sanctities.

He stressed his determination for attending an intra-Muslim dialogue despite diversity of denominations and schools of thought in line with prevalence of solidarity and foiling anti-Islam intrigues.

Al-Azhar once again urged the Arab and Islamic countries to boycott Swedish and Danish products as a way to support the holy book of Islam.

The response by the grand mufti of al-Azhar followed a letter by Iranian senior scholar who had urged Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb for coordinating a serious measure by the Islamic countries against desecration of holy Qur’an in Sweden and Denmark.

Ayatollah A’rafi had proposed a review of the relations and boycott of products from these countries, coordinated measure to confront Sweden and other desecrating states and also efforts to pass an international law to prevent similar blasphemous acts.

The Iranian scholar also called for establishment of interfaith dialogue based on Islamic teachings among the priorities of all states and religious centers.
