OIC meeting stresses defending rights of Muslim women

Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) underlined the organization’s commitment to defending the rights of Muslim women and expressed regret over the desperate situation of the women in Gaza amid Israeli atrocities during the past month.

Hissein Brahim Taha, speaking at “Women in Islam: Status and Empowerment” conference held in the Saudi city of Jeddah, stressed that the conference will remain a beacon in the OIC and participating bodies’ history for promoting and affirming women’s rights in Islam, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
The OIC chief referred to the desperate situation of civilians amid the Israel’s brutal onslaught against the besieged Gaza Strip claiming the greatest number of victims among women and children and stated,” The most significant number of victims, who are being slaughtered in the midst of a state of silence, constitute the weakest link in this tragedy.”
 
He stressed,” The situation in Gaza urges intensified efforts to expose this Israeli barbarism and defend the rights of Palestinian women, the Palestinian people, and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in a situation in which it is impossible to separate people from the land or the land from the gruesome reality of Israeli occupation.”
 
Brahim Taha also touched upon the issues challenging women in Afghanistan and highlighted the determination of the Islamic organization to continue constructive dialogue to empower Afghan women and guarantee their right to access education at all levels and participate in public life.
 
A number of top women officials from the OIC Member States and female participants as well as the invitees delivers speech at the meeting.
