Imam Reza shrine marks birth anniv. of Hazrat Abbas
The holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) has marked the birth anniversary of Hazrat Abbas (AS), half brother to the third Shia Imam and a prominent hero in the Battle of Karbala.

Attended by thousands of pilgrims at Imam Reza shrine in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, the Deputy Office for Islamic Ideology Dissemination has celebrated the auspicious occasion on Wednesday, Taqrib News Agency (TNA) reported quoting Astan News.
The holy shrine has braced for the festivities of Shaban, the last month in the Islamic lunar calendar with inscriptions and colorful lights all over the place.
The month of Shaban marks several Islamic occasions including the birth anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), birth anniversary of Hazrat Abbas (AS) on the second and third of the holy month.
The Shia community also marks the birth anniversary of Imam Sajjad (AS), fourth Shia Imam, Hazrat Ali Akbar, son of Imam Hussein and also Imam Mahdi (AS), twelfth Shia Imam all of whom grandsons of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
