Pro-Palestine campus protests expand across globe
Inspired by the US campus pro-Palestine encampments, the protests are demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza Strip, divestment from the Israeli-linked companies and universities and hail American students for their support for the Palestinians under Israeli onslaughts, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

In the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, angry students burnt an effigy of the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and shouted slogans against regime’s killing of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Students also gathered at the University of Baghdad in the Iraqi capital to call for an end to Israel’s massacre of the Palestinians holding placards to thank American students for their pro-Palestine protests across US universities.

Similar protests were held in other Muslim countries namely Lebanon, Yemen, Malaysia and Tunisia with students holding Palestinian flags and shouting “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” and “Ceasefire Now.”

Across Europe, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, UK and Ireland have been scene of pro-Palestine campus protests.

A demonstration in support of Palestine was held in the German capital joining other European capitals as thousands gathered near the Wilmersdorf metro station to march against Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip and Germany’s provision of weapons to Tel Aviv.

Demonstrators demanding an end to the genocide in Gaza chanted slogans: “Germany funds, Israel kills”, “Ceasefire now, freedom for Palestine” and “Stop the genocide.”

The protesters criticized Germany for complicity in war crimes by supplying weapons to Israel.

Students from Trinity College in Ireland and activists also held separate demonstrations by pro-Palestinian students demanding that the school’s administration sever ties with Israel.

The students wrote slogans such as “Israel is a terrorist state”, “End the genocide”, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” and “Free Palestine” on tents set up on campus.

In the United States where the pro-Palestine campus protests firstly began, hundreds of graduates of American universities raised the Palestinian flag and keffiyeh during graduation ceremonies at several universities including Michigan, Boston, and Chicago, as an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people and denouncing the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip.

The students raised the Palestinian flag as part of the protest activities against the refusal of university administrations to stop investments and cooperation with Israel, and to submit to the demands of the students, and in rejection of the arrest of more than 2,500 student protesters at universities by US police.

Additionally, schools in the state of Illinois joined student protests across the US, demanding an end to the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people, reflecting another shift in the course of the protests in America that may prompt other educational and academic institutions to join the activities.

central America, in Mexico students pitched camps in solidarity with similar protests that have swept the US colleges with the students calling on Mexican government to cut off diplomatic and commercial ties with Israeli regime.

In Quebec, Canada, week-long protests have ramped up demands that the government severs ties with the Israeli regime.

Since April 18th, American universities have witnessed student activism in support of the Gaza Strip in the face of the Israeli war, which later expanded to universities in other countries.

The protests are gaining momentum as more universities are joining the campus protests with some continuing peaceful gatherings and some others turning violent at the intervention of the police.
