Millions of Muslims across the globe mark the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Abbas, also known as Ta’sua, on the ninth day of the mourning month of Muharram.

Muslims hold mourning ceremonies, in massive congregations, beating their chests along with the eulogists performing in honor of the third Shia Imam and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 A.D., reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Millions of Muslims from across the globe flock to the holy city of Karbala in Iraq, where the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS) and Imam Hussein (AS) are located.
 
The city in inundated with the pilgrims arriving from across the globe to mark the bravery and sacrifice made by the third Shia Imam and his companions in a battle against the tyrant ruler of the time, Yazid-ibn Muawiyah.
 
People in Iran also attend the mourning processions held for the half-brother and closest companion of Imam Hussein (AS).
 
Groups of people set up tents or hold ceremonies at homes and mosques to pay tribute to the third Shia Imam and renew their vow to fight injustice.
 
The day marks an important landmark for Muslims and a number of non-Muslims loyal to the third Shia Imam who sacrificed his life to defend Islam and fight injustice in the Battle of Karbala.
