Turkiye calls for sanctions on Israel

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan yesterday called for sanctions to be imposed on Israel, urging the international community to halt all forms of support for the country in light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

“We must start with sanctions. The international community needs to take legal action. We should boycott Israel.”
Fidan warned: “Otherwise, Israel will continue its massacres and genocide in Gaza, as it is not currently paying any economic, political, or military price.” He expressed concern that international attention is “shifting away from Gaza” amid Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
The minister stressed: “Those who support Israel must also pay the price so that they realise there are limits to their actions.”
Turkiye severed most of its economic ties with Israel in the spring, although the opposition has accused the government of continuing to supply Tel Aviv with oil under previous agreements.
Fidan met with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, yesterday and he lamented the “international community’s failure,” adding that the expanding war in Lebanon is “pushing the region towards catastrophe.”
