Ghalibaf noted that “the image of Sinwar’s struggle to the end will inspire hundreds of fighters to follow in his footsteps and that of the martyr Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, accelerating the liberation of Jerusalem.”
Earlier, Iran’s mission to the United Nations stressed that the spirit of resistance would be strengthened after Sinwar died in battle, affirming that “the martyr Sinwar will become a model for the youth and children who will continue his path towards the liberation of Palestine.”
Sinwar was martyred on 17 October 2024, during a direct field engagement with Israeli occupation forces in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, after a long career in military, security and political work.
On 6 August, Hamas appointed Sinwar, also referred to as “Abu Ibrahim”, as the head of its political bureau, succeeding Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran on 31 July in an attack attributed to Israel, although Israel has not officially acknowledged its involvement .
