Pezeshkian made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Monday afternoon.

“We want a safe region, where the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all Muslim countries are respected, and regional nations coexist peacefully.

“It is, therefore, imperative for regional heads of state to step forward and ensure the security of the region before outsiders grasp the chance for interference,” the Iranian president stated.

Pezeshkian pointed to Israel’s role in spreading insecurity and terrorism across the Muslim world, stating that the Zionist regime does not want Muslim nations to live in peace.

“This would make it highly essential for the Muslim Ummah to reconcile differences, and forge convergence and unity.”

For his part, the Qatari emir highlighted his country's common views with Iran on regional issues, particularly Gaza and Lebanon as well as the urgent need to maintain Syria’s territorial integrity.

“We believe that the unfolding developments in Syria testify that stability and security in Syria can only be ensured through diplomacy. Hence, we are fully prepared to play a role in establishing peace in Syria through a political agreement.”
