Amir-Saeid Iravani, made the remarks at the emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council held on Tuesday night to discuss the ongoing situation in Syria, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He expressed deep concerns over the recent escalation between the Syrian army and the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), also known as Jabhat al-Nusra warning that the conflicts have gravely threatened Syria’s sovereignty and stability.

He condemned the “external support and intervention” lying at the heart of the crisis in Syria which has undermined the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

Iravani said,” The scale and sophistication of HTS’s operations, including advanced weaponry and drones, highlight deliberate external support, with the United States at the forefront, turning terrorism into a tool of foreign policy to advance their political agenda.”

He also referred to the coordinated atrocities by the Israeli regime and the HTS as efforts to destabilize Syria.

The Iranian diplomat warned against HTS as a terrorist group, explicitly designated under Security Council resolutions and the grave threat it poses to the peace and stability of the region” and added,” If the international community fails to confront this terrorist group decisively, its growing dominance over parts of Syria could trigger catastrophic consequences for the entire region and pose a serious threat to global peace and security.”

Iravani emphasized Iran’s steadfast support for the Syrian government and its people in their fight against terrorism.

He also stressed that all measures to combat terrorism must be undertaken in coordination with the consent of the Syrian Government, ensuring full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The United Nations Security Council held the emergency meeting less than a week into the resurgence of the foreign-backed terrorist group HTS and its allied armed groups against the northern parts of Syria.
