Iraqi officials hail Gen. Soleimani's role in counter-terror fight
Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, highlighted the role of the two counter-terror commanders, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Muhandis in fight against terrorist and extremist groups in the country.

Al-Sudani made the comment in the Iraqi Martyr’s Day which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Sayyed Mohammad Baqir Sadr, Iraqi Islamic philosopher and jurist (1935-1980).
Also in the Iraqi Martyr’s Day, the leader of National Wisdom Movement in Iraq lauded Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Muhandis for the critical role they played in victory over Daesh terrorist group, a brainchild of groups seeking chaos in the region.
The comment by Iraqi scholar comes in the wake of the fifth martyrdom anniversary of General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Muhandis in an assassination operation by US forces in Iraq.
Sayyed Ammar Hakim said,” God Almighty intended to convene Iraqi people around the senior Shia jurist, Ayatollah Sistani who neutralized the treacherous plots in its cradle.
Hakim called for establishment of a counter-terrorism center based in Baghdad as a hub for coordination of the joint efforts to boost security in the region.
The top cleric also called for launch of comprehensive regional dialogue to foster constant understanding and cooperation among the countries in the region.
He said the proposal highlights importance of dialogue as means to boost peace and stability.
