Iran registers martyrdom date of former president in national calendar

Iran has registered the martyrdom date of former President Ebrahim Raeisi as Martyrs of Service Day on the Iranian national calendar marking the late official slain while serving his country.

The registration follows a decree issued by President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution.

Former head of the executive, late president Raiesi and a delegation of officials accompanying him were martyred in a helicopter crash in northwest Iran on May 19, 2024.

The delegation was back from the inauguration ceremony of two dams built over Aras River jointly held by his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev.
