WFP censures attack on its convoy carrying food aid to Gaza

The World Food Program (WFP) has strongly condemned the horrifying Israeli attack on its convoy at a military checkpoint near Wadi Gaza, in the central the Strip calling for improvement of security situation to continue life-saving operations in the besieged strip.

The WFP said that the attack targeted clearly marked WFP convoy endangering the lives of its staff and left the vehicles immobilized.

According to the international body the convoy, consisting of three vehicles carrying eight staff members, came under direct fire and at least 16 bullets struck the vehicles.

The attack comes despite WFP receiving all of the necessary clearances from Israeli authorities.

WFP added the “unacceptable event” as just the latest example of the complex and dangerous environment that its staff and other agencies are operating in amid the ongoing and indiscriminate attacks by Israeli regime.

The WFP stressed the urgent need to improve the security situation in Gaza in order to continue life-saving humanitarian aid.

The WFP, a United Nations agency, urged for respect for the international humanitarian law, protect civilian lives and allow for the safe passage of humanitarian aid.

More than 1.5 million Palestinian civilians are in dire need of the basic aid amid the relentless Israeli onslaughts and the tightening siege imposed by the regime since it unleashed a killing campaign on Gaza in early October 2023.
