Israeli regime releases sixth batch of Palestinian prisoners
Israeli authorities have released the sixth batch of Palestinian prisoners involving 183 prisoners as part of the ceasefire agreement with Hamas resistance movement.
According to the Palestinian Prisoner's Society and the Palestinian Authority’s Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission the released prisoners include 36 detainees serving life sentences and 333 detainees from Gaza detained after October 7, 2023.
The Palestinian Prisoner's Society said,” 29 of the released prisoners are from the West Bank, 7 from Jerusalem.”
Meanwhile, 24 prisoners serving life sentences were deported outside of Palestine.
During the release, Israeli forces turned the area near Ofer Prison, west of Ramallah, into a military zone, blocking families from gathering to welcome their loved ones and firing live ammunition and tear gas at them.
Despite the restrictions, hundreds of Palestinians and relatives of the released prisoners gathered early in the morning at the Mahmoud Darwish Museum in Ramallah to greet the freed detainees, waving Palestinian flags in celebration of their release.
Hamas resistance movement also handed three Israeli captives over to the Red Cross in an exchange for the Palestinian prisoners in the latest such swap under an ongoing truce deal.
