International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People was first called for by the United Nations General Assembly in 1977 as a reminder to the international community of the Palestinian struggle for self-determination, independence, and the right of return.
Speaking at the conclusion of a three-day visit to Germany, Lazzarini said, “The sharp increase in the cost of food and commodities is plunging Palestine refugees in the region into deeper poverty. In Gaza, Lebanon and Syria, over 80 percent live below the poverty line.”
Lazzarini, who was on an official visit to Tokyo from 5 - 7 October, also highlighted the Agency’s financial crisis and discussed ways to mobilize sustainable support, during a series of meetings he held with government officials, including Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi, and Arab ambassadors based in Japan.
