“Alarmed by today’s IPC report findings that high displacement and restrictions on humanitarian aid flows mean people in Gaza are facing catastrophic levels of hunger,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres posted on X.
Antonio Guterres 'highlighted the pressing need for regional de-escalation and Iran’s important role in the realization of that objective,' says his office
Guterres, speaking to reporters at the United Nations, appealed for assurances to be provided right away as he warned that preventing and containing the spread of polio in the enclave would take a massive coordinated and urgent effort.
“The situation in Gaza became a situation of total lawlessness. Most of the trucks with humanitarian aid inside Gaza are now looted because this is a war that is different from any other one,” Guterres said at a news conference when he was asked about the UN efforts to overcome “the lawlessness” hampering humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza.
"It is imperative that independent international investigators, with forensic expertise, are allowed immediate access to the sites of these mass graves to establish the precise circumstances under which hundreds of Palestinians lost their lives and were buried, or reburied," Guterres told reporters in New York.
"It is time to have a humanitarian cease-fire before a gigantic tragedy develops in Gaza, if we have the same kind of intensity of military operations in Gaza that we have seen in Khan Younis and in other parts of Gaza territory, I mean, the same in Rafah," Guterres said at a news conference at the UN headquarters in New York.
'I strongly appeal to the governments that have suspended their contributions to, at least, guarantee the continuity of UNRWA’s operations,' says Guterres
Addressing Qatar’s Doha Forum, Guterres said the council was paralyzed by geostrategic divisions that were undermining solutions to the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, which so far resulted in the murder of nearly 17,000 Palestinians, predominantly civilians.
