“Sanitation conditions across Gaza are likely worsening to public health risks,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a news conference, citing reports from humanitarian teams.
OCHA said on Wednesday that 40 out of 49 attempts by humanitarian organisations to coordinate their movements with Israeli occupation authorities between 18-24 March were denied, adding “tasks as critical as picking up essential supplies or refueling bakeries are effectively blocked.”
“OCHA reports that Israeli authorities continue to deny UN-led efforts to reach North Gaza governorate with vital aid. This includes the most recent attempt today,” said the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.
The remarks were made in a statement by a senior official of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied Territory (OCHA), Jonathan Whittall.
“We deal with tough places to deliver humanitarian support. But Gaza is currently the most dangerous, in a year when more humanitarians have been killed than any on record.”
Dujarric said in press statements that the majority of UN-led aid missions to northern Gaza, especially those trying to reach the besieged areas, are rejected.
“We are pausing the delivery of aid through Kerem Shalom, the main crossing point for humanitarian aid into Gaza. The road out of this crossing has not been safe for months,” UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said in a statement.
COGAT, the Israeli occupation army’s arm which oversees aid shipments into Gaza, admitted in a report submitted to the Israeli Supreme Court to the drop, where 26,399 tonnes of aid entered Gaza since in October, compared to 87,445 tonnes of aid brought in to the enclave in September, and an average of 95,513 tonnes allowed in each month this year.
There are some countries that informed UNRWA that they are reducing their financial aid by a large percentage, Adnan Abu Hasna, UNRWA spokesman, said in a radio interview according to Sawa news agency.
About 30 tons of food items, including rice, oil, and flour donated by Iran, were distributed on Sunday among 450 needy families in the Sozma Qala district of Sar-e-Pul province of Afghanistan.
