US Military activities in ME: multipurpose, limited and passive

There have been a number of reports on deployment of minor US Army units in Syria, Iraq and Yemen which have been confirmed by authorities and spokespersons from US Ministry of Defense and Department of State.
US Military activities in ME: multipurpose, limited and passive
Jafar Qannadbashi, Iranian political experts on Africa and Western Asia Affairs, in an interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA) detailed on these recent changes and the objectives of US government in pursuit of this military strategy.

Iranian expert was asked on the objectives or reasons for the US to deploy its army units in Northeastern Syria, Southern Yemen and also some Northern areas in Iraq.

To this question he referred to different possibilities with four hypotheses are the most likely. First, US has taken the measure as a reaction to military and operational weaknesses of Saudi Arabia in Yemen and back to back failures of Takfiri (excommunication) terrorist groups in Syria so that deployment of US forces contributes to improvement of the spirits among Saudi army and terrorist groups as well as prevent the failure of the Saudi front in the region because that would mean a great strategic and influential victory for Islamic resistance (including Iran, Hezbollah, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq).

The second presumption is that the deployment of the forces near US presidential elections pursues two objectives; Democrats ruling party, in a bid to absorb the most votes, intends to leave a capable and heroic face from its international status and then it is a preventive measure against possible incidents which might tarnish its reputation for the American voters.

This is particularly important when the most important Democrat nominee, Hillary Clinton, is accused of mismanagement during her serving as the Secretary of State in terror invasion of the US embassy in Libya which led to the killing of the US ambassador in the Arab country.

From this viewpoint, by sending army units to the Middle East region, US intends to undermine the grounds for outbreak of a similar incident to that of Libya especially when some of the marines in this mission are clearly deployed to guard US embassy in Iraq.
Third supposition  relates deployment of the US forces to post-JCPOA era so that the deployment of the forces is shown as a part of the strategy which has been paused only during Iran-P5+1 talks, a move which has been resumed after agreements on JCPOA when the discussions on the issue ended.

Based on this reasoning, military presence of the US in the Middle East region and increasing the forces in countries prone to formation of independent and powerful governments is among strategic principles for Washington and not tactical ones.

Jafar Qannadbashi was also asked if US reaction to recruitment of forces by two battle fronts: Islamic resistance and Saudi front is in fact the dual containment policy by the US. He said the number of players in the political equations of the ruling power in the region has had dramatic changes with the past though the objectives of the US, as a covetous country and a supporter of the Zionist regime of Israel, has not been subject to much change.

Hence, if the phrase dual containment is substituted with multifaceted containment would not be far from reality. That is especially true when the US is trying to take giant measures in government- building arena in the Middle East region and makes the best of the tensions brought by Takfiri groups for weakening the governments and the opposition front.
