In a meeting with Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Kuwait City on Wednesday evening, President Rouhani emphasized the necessity for unity and solidarity among regional countries.

“We consider dialogue and mutual understanding as the only solution to problems and misunderstandings between the regional countries,” the Iranian president said.

“Today, all of us need to stand together as religious and Muslim brothers and counter divisive ideologies,” Rouhani added.
He then described terrorism as a major threat against all countries in the region, referring to unity and solidarity as the only way to combat that threat.

The Iranian president further pointed to the numerous grounds for cooperation with Kuwait, and voiced Tehran’s readiness for joint investment in diverse projects.

He also called for close interaction between the private sectors of Iran and Kuwait, stressing that bilateral trade ties should rise as fast as the political relations.

For his part, the Kuwaiti emir hailed President Rouhani’s emphasis on unity among regional states, saying Kuwait is prepared to broaden ties with Iran in a whole host of fields.

Accompanied by a delegation of Iranian ministers, advisers and representatives of the private sector, President Rouhani paid a one-day visit to Oman and Kuwait.

The short trip was apparently made in response to a recent message from the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) for closer ties with Tehran via dialogue.

In late January, Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah visited Tehran to relay a message from the Kuwaiti emir to President Rouhani.

Speaking to reporters before his departure for Muscat on Wednesday morning, President Rouhani underlined that Iran favors “promotion of ties with regional and neighboring countries, and strengthening of stability, security and development across the region.”
