“Historical city of Yazd will host more than 1,000 foreign tourists this year who will travel to Iran to participate in the Imam Hussein (PBUH) mourning ceremony on Tasu’a and Ashura” Taqrib News Agency
(TNA) has quoted Yazd Religious Tourism Committee vice-chairman Mohammad Mehdi Rajaeifard as saying.

“A large group of Spanish and Italian tourists will travel to Iran to participate in the religious ceremony of Tasu’a and Ashura and will visit different Iranian cities to see the rituals and traditions of the Iranian people who mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH),” he stressed.

Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram and martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) who was martyred in the Battle of Karbala accompanied by his companions and family members back in 680 AD.

Millions of Muslims across the globe mark the ceremonies for Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions as one of the most important landmarks in the history of Shia Islam.

The holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is in the Iraqi city of Karbala.
