Tehran hosts Persian tea house painting exhibition
An exhibition of traditional Persian teahouse painting centered on the epic of Ashura has been mounted in Tehran's Sa'adabad Cultural and Historical Complex.
The exhibition has been displaying various tea house paintings created by the masters such as Mohammad Modabber, Abbas Boloukifar, Mirza Mehdi Shirazi and Yadollah Rahimi.
The works which represent their creators’ sympathy on the tragic event invite the visitors to Mellal Art Musum in Tehran's Sa'adabad Cultural and Historical Complex.
All the paintings narrate the tragedy of Ashura during which Shia’s Imam Hussein and his companions were martyred.
Teahouse painting is a traditional Persian art which embodies some elements of miniature painting. The works painted in this style mostly depict religious and national events.
Moreover, such paintings feature what goes on in the heart of the artist rather than relying on classical techniques and there is no limitation of subject in this style.
The current exhibition which kicked off on November 18 will run through November 27, 2012. /SR
