Senior Iranian cleric in his sermon warned of enemies targeting Muslim unity and said," All endeavors by enemies aim to undermine solidarity between Shia and Sunni Muslims."
The cleric made the comments on the eve of the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) which is celebrated over a week, dubbed as "Islamic Unity Week" by the late founder of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini (RA).
He said," Unity between Shia and Sunni is a great concern for the enemies who spare no effort to undermine the solidarity."
The cleric quoted the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei calling those who fuel the disagreements between Shia and Sunni as thugs.
Friday prayer leader of Astara highlighted the dire need of present society to unity, particularly religious unity.
Muslims from different denominations mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad on 12th- 17th Rabi' al-Awwal during a week due to the different dates celebrated by Sunni and Shia Muslims. The span of this week is commemorated as the "Islamic Unity Week."
