Iran’s cultural attaché discusses interfaith dialogue with Lebanese archbishop
Iran’s cultural attaché in Lebanon has visited Orthodox Church in Dekwaneh in eastern Beirut to discuss importance of interfaith dialogue and religious proximity with Archbishop George Saliba.

Abbas Khameyar, Iranian official in this meeting stressed necessity of interfaith dialogue announcing Iran’s decision to continue cooperation and dialogue with influential Christian figures in the field of proximity and religious dialogue, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
George Saliba highlighted the role of Iran in the Middle East region and also Tehran’s endeavors in line with maintaining friendly ties with Arab and Islamic countries.
“Iran has always moved in line with elimination of oppression and reviving the rights of all nations, particularly rights of the oppressed” said the Archbishop Saliba.
He praised the coexistence and friendly behavior of Muslims with followers of other religions throughout history.
The Archbishop of Orthodox Church in Dekwaneh lauded to the historical background of Christians with Iran and also the oldest church located in the Iranian city of Urmiyah.
George Saliba noted the new life injected into the religious minorities following the victory of Islamic Revolution in Iran and said,” Islamic Revolution in Iran stressed that all religions are common in their essence and provided the grounds for reviving the rights of followers of all religions.”
He highlighted the religious freedom for followers of sacred religions in Iran and called for expansion of interfaith dialogue and also ways to promote religious proximity between Iran and Lebanon.
