Cleric warns of Iran-Iraq common enemies, stresses shared religious beliefs
Custodian of the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) warned of the common enemies of Iran and Iraq who struggle to spark tension between the neighboring countries and stressed religious beliefs, besides diplomatic ties, to be behind bilateral relations between Tehran and Baghdad.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Ahmad Marvi, in a recent meeting with the governor general of Iraq’s holy city of Karbala, Nasif Jasem al-Khatabi held in Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine highlighted the historical and cultural commonalities of the two nations and reiterated importance of consolidating mutual ties between the neighboring countries.
“More consolidated relations between Iran and Iraq will lead to a more stable Middle East” said the Iranian top cleric warning of efforts to undermine the friendly relations between Iranian and Iraqi nation.
Noting that Iran and Iraq have got common enemies, he called for efforts on deepening, continuing and consolidating friendship between the two countries in a bid to counter the divisive plots.
The custodian of Imam Reza shrine referred to the holy sites located in Iran and Iraq as and important ground for friendly relations between the two countries and stressed, “Bilateral relations between Tehran and Baghdad go beyond mere economic interests; their relations are rooted in religious and ritual beliefs”.
Top scholar vowed Iran’s support for security, prosperity, and greatness of Iraq and added,” This view by the Islamic Republic is not from a position of supremacy and domination which is a policy of the US but it is from a humanistic, Islamic, religious and Shia position.”
Iraqi official noted that all necessary measures for expanding ties between Mashhad and Karbala have been taken and expressed hope for measures for materialization of the objectives in no time”.
