Professor Syed Minhaj ul Hassan made comments at the third webinar of the 38th International Islamic Unity Conference scheduled to be held on September 14-21.
During his speech, he defined just peace and just war and examined the foundations and indicators of each.
He described Islam as "the religion of peace", noting that the religion
instructs its followers to wage war only under certain circumstances.
Defensive war is allowed in Islam, he said, adding that if the non-Muslims attack the Muslims, it becomes obligatory for all Muslims to defend their territory.
The war must be just, the expert said, adding that the war must not be for the purpose of oppression and worldly affairs.
During the war, Muslims were prohibited from harming women, children, the elderly, and the disabled, he underlined.
The professor went on to say that looting the resources is not allowed during a conflict.
He further noted that killing captives is prohibited when it comes to wars.
