The government of Mali has not announced the official death toll, but diplomatic and security sources in the region say that around 70 people have lost their lives.

Another unnamed source said hundreds of people appeared to have been killed and wounded, and that the hospital did not have enough beds to treat the injured.
The scale and complexity of the attacks further undermines the ruling junta's claims that security has improved since it booted out French and U.S. forces, and turned to Russia instead for security.
