“Human dignity, foundation for ethics”, senior cleric
The chairman of Islamic Studies at the Academy of Sciences of Iran called human dignity as the foundation for ethics as the first human rights documents following the WWII suggest.

Ayatollah Mohaghegh Damad made the comments in his speech at the opening ceremony of the first conference on “Human Dignity and Family Challenges in Modern World” held in the Iranian holy city of Mashhad on Monday, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He said,” In the years following the Islamic Revolution, some rational approaches emphasized human dignity while some others only hijacked the idea.”
The cleric added,” All Islamic ethic principles are based on human dignity as the freedom in human rights is based on that.”
He said that the necessities of human dignity are subject to change with passage of time, an issue that must be discussed and settled.
Ayatollah Mohaghegh Damad delivered his speech on ‘Human Dignity, Epistemology and Ontology’ at the first conference on human dignity and family challenges held by World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.
A number of Muslim university professors and academics from across the globe attend the meeting hosted by the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad.
