Supreme Leader: Negotiating with U.S. is not wise, rational, or honorable

The Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamanei stated: "Negotiating with the U.S. has no effect on solving the country's problems. We must understand this correctly; they should not make us believe that if we sit at the negotiating table with that government, the problems will be solved."
Supreme Leader: Negotiating with U.S. is not wise, rational, or honorable
This meeting is held annually during the Fajr Ten-Day Dawn to commemorate the historic allegiance of a group of airmen to Imam Khomeini on February 19, 1979.
The main points of the Supreme Leader's speech during this meeting are as follows:
  • "First of all, negotiating with the U.S. has no effect on solving the country's problems. We must understand this correctly; they should not make us believe that if we sit at the negotiating table with that government, a certain problem or another problem will be solved. No; no problem will be solved by negotiating with the U.S. The reason? Experience!"
"In the past, we sat down and negotiated with the U.S. for about two years, and a treaty was formed. Of course, the U.S. was not alone; there were several other countries involved, but the focus was on the U.S., primarily the U.S. Our government negotiated - the government of that day - they went, came, sat, negotiated, talked, laughed, shook hands, did everything, and a treaty was formed."
"In this treaty, the Iranian side was very generous, giving many concessions to the other side. However, the Americans did not implement that treaty."
"The very person who is currently in power tore up the treaty. He said he would tear it up, and he did; they did not implement it. Even before he came, those who had made the treaty did not adhere to it. The treaty was supposed to lift the U.S. sanctions, but the U.S. sanctions were not lifted! They also tasked the United Nations, which serves as a constant threat over Iran. This treaty was the product of negotiations that lasted two years - more or less."
"The Americans sit down and are changing the map of the world on paper. Of course, it is only on paper; it has no reality. They also comment on us, speak, express opinions, and threaten. If they threaten us, we will threaten them. If they carry out this threat, we will also act on our threat. If they attack the security of our nation, we will undoubtedly attack their security."
