The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has vowed to promote effective strategies against Isalmophobia stressing its commitment to creating a world where everyone can practice their faith in full freedom.
The Secretary General of the OIC, Hissein Brahim Taha, made the remarks in a message issued on the International Day to combat Islamophobia hailing the day a turning point in fight against religious discrimination, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He warned against expansion of anti-Muslim incidents provoked by hate speech, attack on places of worship and persistent discrimination.
He said the fight against Islamophobia demands a collective action and an innovative response.
Hissein Brahim Taha said,” The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in collaboration with its partners, continues to promote effective strategies against Islamophobia, strengthen legal protections for minorities and combat religious hatred in all its forms.”
The OIC Secretary General also highlighted the key role of interfaith and intercultural dialogue in building lasting bridges of understanding and underlined commitment to efforts for a world where “diversity becomes cultural richness, and where mutual respect triumphs over prejudice.”
The International Day to Combat Islamophobia was designated by the United Nations in 2022 marking 15 March every year to counter anti-Islam hatred.
The date was chosen as the anniversary of a 2019 mass shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand when 51 people were killed during Friday prayer.
