"What I declared was not based on speculations but available intelligence which we thought useful to share with the public opinion," explained the Minister.
Terrorism knows no sect or religion according to a statement by Lebanese Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn Sunday, in which he vehemently denied taking a shot at the Sunni sect or the town of Arsal.
Ghosn stated to the media last week that he alerted Syrian authorities to the infiltration of Al Qaeda militants from the bordering Lebanese town of Arsal into Syria. Shortly afterwards, twin-bombs shook Damascus, killing 44 people and injuring over 160 others. This generated accusations that Ghosn was attempting to drag Lebanon, particularly the Sunni sect, into the Syrian conundrum.
Ghosn expressed surprise at giving sectarian proportions to his statements, while his intention was to safeguard the country's security and urge all Lebanese to rally around the Army.
"We all know that Lebanese of all sects and affiliations reject terrorism... and it is impossible for it to find refuge in any Lebanese region or town."
