In a rare move, UN Secretary-General Guterres has invoked Article 99 of the UN Charter, forcing the Security Council to address the Gaza war, Al Jazeera reported.

"What is clear is that we have had, in a few weeks, thousands of children killed, so this is what matters. We are witnessing a killing of civilians that is unparalleled and unprecedented in any conflict since I am Secretary-General."

 A periodic meeting of the UN Security Council to review the UN Secretary-General's report on the implementation of Resolution 2231 and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action Agreement will be held in New York on Thursday, June 30.

"Any use of force that results in death or injury must be investigated promptly and thoroughly," said Guterres spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
