Anniversary of Iran
A Historic Turning Point

Every year, from the twelfth to the twenty-second of Bahman (January31st-February 10th), Iranians commemorate the Islamic Revolution, a transformative event that reshaped the country’s political, social, and economic landscape. The revolution, culminating on the twenty-second of Bahman in 1979, led to the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of Imam Khomeini. This period not only marked the end of foreign influence in Iran’s affairs but also established a new system based on independence, resistance, and the values of Islam.

The Revolution’s Global Recognition

The Islamic Revolution was not only a significant national event but also had profound global implications. It inspired numerous independence movements and challenged the dominance of Western political and economic models in the region. Figures such as American academic Noam Chomsky and Lebanese scholar George Jordac have acknowledged the revolution’s role in shifting the balance of power in the Middle East.

Chomsky, in his discussions on international politics, has emphasized Iran’s ability to maintain sovereignty despite external pressures, viewing it as a model of resistance against foreign intervention.

Likewise, George Jordac, in his analysis of Islamic governance, has praised the revolutionary leadership’s commitment to justice and social welfare.

The Role of Leadership and People’s Support

The revolution’s success was largely due to the unwavering support of the Iranian people, who sought an end to monarchy and foreign dominance. Imam Khomeini’s leadership was pivotal, uniting various social classes under the shared goal of establishing a government based on Islamic principles. The participation of millions in rallies, strikes, and demonstrations revealed the power of a collective national will.

Achievements and Progress Since 1979

Since the revolution, Iran has made significant strides in various fields:

Scientific and Technological Advances: Iran has become a leader in science, ranking among the top countries in fields like nanotechnology, biotechnology, and nuclear energy.

Military Independence: Unlike the pre-revolution era, when Iran was dependent on foreign military support, the country now produces its own defense technology. The country has unveiled several of its domestically-manufactured missiles during the military maneuvers conducted in past years.

Social Development: Literacy rates have improved dramatically, and access to healthcare and education has expanded significantly. The active role of women in different arenas including science and technology, sports, education and economy has shown dramatic increase. Literacy rate among women has increased to 80% with girls making more than 61% of the university admissions.

Commemorations and Celebrations

The anniversary of the Islamic Revolution is marked by large-scale celebrations, including rallies, cultural programs, and speeches by national leaders. Over 1,500 cities and 3,000 villages in Iran participate in these events this year, with international media closely following the commemorations.

The 22nd of Bahman is not merely a historical remembrance but a reaffirmation of the principles that continue to guide the Islamic Republic. The revolution remains a source of pride for Iranians who value independence, resistance against oppression, and the pursuit of national progress.
