Imam Reza shrine completes renovation of ancient courtyard ahead of Persian New Year
The holy shrine has finished reconstruction project of Enqelab Eslami Courtyard of the complex concurrent with the birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi (AS), 12th Shia Imam to offer better services to the Iranian and foreign pilgrims arriving at the holy site.

Ghaffarian Asadast, manager of the maintenance at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), enumerated a number of renovation measures taken at the ancient courtyard ahead of the Persian New Year.
He said, “Pavement of the Enqelab Eslami Courtyard had been changed over 20 years ago; it needed a new and more resistant pavement”.
Besides the reconstruction project of the courtyard, the golden dome, the steel window also received some repayments and a number of faucets were added to the water fountain (Saqakhaneh).
Ghaffarian also added: “The steel window, golden porches and lighting installations of the courtyard also received renovation.”
maintenance of the fire extinguishing system and fire alarms as well as the renovation of all the pavilions on the northern wing were among the key measures included in this project.
The six thousand and eight-hundred square-meter Enqelab Eslami Courtyard, publicly known as Atiqi Yard, is now at the service of Imam Reza pilgrims.
Millions of pilgrims from across Iran and other countries arrive in Iran’s northeastern city of Mashhad every day. The number is usually multiplied on special religious occasions and national landmarks.
