UN demands Iran’s President Pezeshkian prevent new escalations in region
The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has felicitated Iran’s newly-elected President, Masoud Pezeshkian, on his win calling for Tehran’s efforts to prevent new conflicts in the west Asian region.

In a message addressed to Pezeshkian, Guterres wished him success in his new capacity as the Iranian president and acknowledged that he is counting on him to help promote the values and ideals enshrined in the UN Charter.
He called for Iran’s important and influential role in West Asia to be used in order to help resolve regional crises and prevent the outbreak of new conflicts that could threaten the region and beyond.
Guterres also emphasized that the UN will continue supporting the Islamic Republic of Iran’s efforts aimed at sustainable progress and development.
Peseshkian won the runoff vote on July 5 to become Iran’s 9th president.
At a ceremony in Tehran on Sunday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei officially endorsed Pezeshkian to take office for four years.
The swearing-in ceremony of Pezeshkian will be held in the parliament on July 30.
