Iran vows continuation of support for resistance

Iranian ambassador to Beirut, Mojtaba Amani, said Tehran will continue its material and spiritual support for the resistance front.

The envoy made the comment during a ceremony to commemorate the fifth martyrdom anniversary of Iran’s anti-terror commander General Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated in Iraq in 2020.

He said General Soleimani played a leading role in West Asia, particularly in Lebanon.

“General Soleimani played a crucial role in promoting stability in the region. He made great efforts in all political and military fields to thwart the US plots,” the Iranian diplomat said.

Amani noted that the top Iranian anti-terror commander’s path did not end even after his assassination.

He rejected speculations about any change in Iran’s stance on the Resistance Front and Lebanon, saying such rumors are spread frequently, particularly after a "ceasefire agreement" between the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah and the Israeli regime.

“The Israeli regime and its [affiliated] organization seek to spread such rumors against Iran,” the ambassador said.

If Iran wanted to stop supporting the resistance, it would not have followed this path for 45 years, he said.

General Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), and their companions were assassinated in a US drone strike authorized by then-US President Donald Trump near the Iraqi capital Baghdad’s International Airport on January 3, 2020.
