Imam Reza shrine hosts Iranians in spiritual Persian New Year ceremony

Thousands of Iranians from across the country gathered at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in the northeastern city of Mashhad to mark the Persian New Year as the ceremonies coincided with the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali (AS) and Qadr Nights.

The massive congregation of pilgrims from different cities attended the ceremony held on Thursday morning that marked the beginning of the Persian New Year with a spiritual ambiance due to concurrency of the Persian New Year with the martyrdom anniversary of the first Shia Imam and Qadr Nights, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
The ceremony was broadcasted live on Iranian television channels as part of the live coverages especially scheduled for the beginning of the Persian New Year.
 
Prayers and recitation of holy Qur’an were part of the ceremony for the beginning of the New Year as is the tradition.
 
A similar solemn ceremony was also held by Iranians visiting the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala.
 
Holy shrines are usually a favorite place for Iranians to mark the beginning of the Persian New Year when people especially pray for world peace, blessings, health and success at the moments leading to the New Year.
