Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, and Ajit Doval, National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of India, exchanged views on political and security relations, especially bilateral and multilateral economic issues, and the most important regional and international developments.
Iran used to be the second-largest oil supplier to India, but New Delhi had to halt imports from Tehran after former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal with Iran and re-imposed sanctions on its oil exports.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to India had been postponed because the Indian Minister of External affairs have contracted COVID-19, adding that the visit was still on the agenda.
"Relations between the two countries have always been growing, but more measures should be taken to further develop and strengthen cooperation," Shamseddin Hosseini said in the meeting with the Indian Ambassador to Tehran Gaddam Dharmendra Wednesday.
